Hello, fellow designers! đ If you're client is gearing up for a trade show or event and you want your backlit display design to steal the spotlight, you're in the right place. We've curated five pro tips to guide you away from common backlit blunders and towards a design that captivates and resonates.
When it comes to backlit displays, simplicity is your best friend. Opt for large photos with vibrant pops of color. Think of your display as a billboardâtoo many pictures and messages can overwhelm your audience. Less is more, and a well-chosen image or simple campaign message can speak volumes.
Ensure your headline commands attention by using a type size between 36 to 72 points. Headings are the gateway to your message and should be located in the top 1/3 of your display for the best visibility. Supporting copy should be no smaller than 18 points to be read at a 10ft distance from the aisle. Remember a podium, table and bodies will be blocking much of your design, ensure your message is in a strategic location.
Backlits leave no room for forgiveness when it comes to resolution. Soft or pixelated graphics will stand out like a sore thumb, especially in the finer details such as teeth, hair, and eyelashes. Take the time to ensure your images are sharp by zooming in 100% and scrutinizing every inch. Backlighting intensifies contrast, so make those midtones rich and captivating.
Don't underestimate the power of end panels. Booking a corner booth not only amplifies your brand power but can also make your end panel the first image attendees see. Strategize your booth location for an unforgettable first impression. Don't try to say two much, keep it to your website address with your logo or just simply use a message or tagline to compliment your graphics.
Pro tip: If you wrap your graphic elements around the end panels it will make your display look larger. If you use a bright flood of colour to draw more attention to your end panel it will become more of a statement piece.Â
In a world where dark designs are trending, translating that look to a backlit display can have unpredictable results. Make sure to use a rich black to avoid the risk of solids turning dull grey. Balancing your dark design is crucialâlet variety shine through while maintaining the richness of your chosen color palette.
We hope these tips light up your creative process and set you on the path to designing a backlit display that truly dazzles!
